State of the Game
Horizons Producer Steve Snow communicates the latest happenings in the world of Istaria in the first State of the Game announcement:
It’s been brought to our attention, by very many customers and potential customers, that we need to start letting everyone know where we are going with Horizons in a much more public format than we have used in the past.
Horizons has been out for one month and things are progressing well. The launch has been fairly smooth. While we had a slightly rocky start for a small portion of our customers we want to thank everyone for seeing out those few hours of downtime during the first week. I also want to point out that we have solved all of the account creation issues that a few hundred potential customers experienced.
The current development team focus is the following:
Things that relate to Bi-peds:
There have been a lot of rumors regarding the ability for Tradespeople to swap or adjust the visual look of the items that they create so I’ll just clarify everything right now. We are indeed working on a system that will allow Blacksmiths and Blacksmith prestige schools to visually customize the in game items they can create. This system will allow you to choose particular blades for weapons or tool heads for smithing hammers and so forth. Provided this goes we may or may not look to do something similar for Outfitters. But that isn’t something we are planning on right now. Don’t expect to see this for some time because we still have a few things to sort out with the current implementation of it.
Things that relate to Dragons:
We are finalization the last legs of making sure that everything is in full functional working order for Juvenile Dragons transitions to Adult Dragons. So don’t be surprised if you see Developer Adult dragons flying overhead on Blight over the next month or two.
Things that relate to everyone:
We are doing constant evaluations of the gameplay balance. I won’t try and highlight this from now on because we will always be reading feedback and adjusting gameplay as we move forward. The design team is drilling into a lot of the schools in the game and making sure they fit with the overall vision that they have for Horizons. We really appreciate everyone’s feedback regarding what they consider to be overpowered and underpowered. Rest assured that even though we are not posting on the boards that does not mean we are not reading them. It is important to highlight that Gale is doing an excellent job of forwarding the negative and positive feedback from the message boards back into the development team.
One of the things that everyone can look forward to is the Map Window, which will be available later this month. It will come in two stages. The first will be a limited non-optional patch version that we will patch out though the updater. We will then have an Atlas augmentation for the map window, which will be an optional download day one. But over time we will patch it out in stages until everyone has it. This is to keep all the 56k users from getting swamped right out of the gate. The total size for the Atlas and the map window will be 30 megs. Don’t worry though, the initial patch version for the map window will only weigh in at 11 to 12 Megs.
More details on the map window are that the initial version will let you pinpoint your location graphically. The Atlas augmentation is embedded in the map window, provided you have downloaded it, and will let you zoom in on a higher detail for terrain.
By popular demand we are going to bring a Character Preview Window right to your Equipment Window. This will display a 3D render of your character, which will allow you to see what your character looks like while wearing your new gear. We will provide you with more information, as we get closer to this.
Once we complete the dragon transition we will implement a more universal inventory slot for both Bi-peds and Dragons. This should help alleviate some of the frustrations with a few of the quest and event rewards.
People are starting to become more aware of the Satyrs and I want to point out that you guys are getting really close to figuring out the puzzle. We really enjoy reading everyone’s speculation about what’s currently going on with the recent events. I hope that with the mystery in “A New Enemy Emerges?” we see even more speculation and banter on the boards.
In closing I want to thank everyone for taking the time to give us feedback regarding Horizons both positive and negative. While we might not respond we are indeed listening. It is our plan to continue to grow Horizons in a direction that provides a solid and enjoyable gameplay experience for our customers and potential customers.
Kind Regards,
